There's something about autumn in the mountains.

Something difficult to explain to someone who has never stood beneath a grove of golden aspens on a cold, clear morning.

The sky seems bluer.

The air feels sharper.

The mountains rise against the horizon in shades of silver, slate, and distant violet.

And everywhere you look, the trees are turning gold.

Not a gentle yellow.

Not a timid hint of color.

Gold.

Brilliant, glowing, almost impossible gold.

The kind that catches the sunlight and makes an entire mountainside look as though it has been painted.

And when the wind begins to move through the aspens, thousands of little leaves shimmer and tremble.

For a brief moment, the forest seems alive with light.

That feeling became Aspen Echo™.

A tribute to the autumn landscapes of the Rocky Mountains.

Unlike my more elaborate fantasy designs, Aspen Echo™ doesn't need mythical creatures, ancient symbols, or hidden worlds.

The mountains already have a little magic of their own.

The Story Behind the Artwork

I've always believed that nature can be just as extraordinary as anything we invent.

Sometimes more so.

And autumn in the Rocky Mountains is a perfect example.

The dramatic contrast between golden aspens, pale blue skies, dark evergreens, and rugged mountain peaks creates a landscape that almost doesn't look real.

I wanted to capture that contrast without turning the shirt into a conventional landscape photograph.

So I approached Aspen Echo™ as a combination of scenic painting and abstract expression.

The mountains provide the structure.

The aspens provide the movement.

And the color connects everything.

White and silver aspen trunks rise through the composition like delicate vertical columns.

Golden leaves appear in scattered clusters, catching imaginary sunlight.

Mountain ridges emerge through soft layers of pale blue and slate gray.

Below them, darker evergreen silhouettes create depth.

But rather than ending neatly at the forest floor, the artwork gradually dissolves into flowing painterly textures.
