Equinox Sentinel™
The Guardian of the Turning Year
There comes a moment every autumn when the world begins to change.
The days grow shorter.
The air turns crisp.
The trees surrender their green to gold, copper, and crimson.
And somewhere between the last warmth of summer and the approaching stillness of winter, light and darkness find their balance.
This is the equinox.
A moment of transition.
A reminder that nothing remains unchanged.
And in an imagined landscape of ancient standing stones, beneath a brilliant golden moon, a black Fell pony stands watch.
His mane tumbles across his powerful neck like the wind moving over the northern moors.
Behind him, the moon illuminates the sky.
Before him, ancient stones rise from the earth.
Above, ravens circle beneath the stars.
And around him, autumn unfolds in all its fiery splendor.
He is not a creature of darkness.
Nor does he belong entirely to the light.
He stands between them.
The Equinox Sentinel.
Guardian of the turning year.
Keeper of the moment when one season surrenders to another.
The Story Behind the Artwork
Long before our modern calendars divided the year into neat little squares, people watched the movement of the sun, the changing seasons, and the rhythms of the natural world.
The arrival of autumn meant more than beautiful leaves.
It marked the harvest.
Preparation.
Reflection.
The gathering of what had grown before the cold returned.
Across the British Isles, ancient landscapes still carry the remains of remarkable stone monuments, including Stonehenge, whose great stones have witnessed countless generations and changing seasons.
Stonehenge is particularly known for its solstice alignments. Its presence in Equinox Sentinel™ is an artistic tribute to ancient seasonal observation, not a literal reconstruction of an equinox ceremony.
That atmosphere became the inspiration for this design.
But every sacred landscape needs a guardian.
And what better creature than the horse?
For this artwork, I chose a Fell pony-inspired guardian.
Native to the rugged landscapes of northern England, Fell ponies are known for their strength, hardiness, intelligence, and magnificent dark coats.
Their thick manes and sturdy silhouettes carry a natural beauty that needs no elaborate decoration.
They belong to the hills.
The wind.
The rain.
The open country.
And they look perfectly at home among ancient stones and rolling moorland.
The Sentinel represents that same enduring spirit.
Strength without arrogance.
Stillness without weakness.
Change without surrender.
Because the equinox is not about choosing light over darkness.
It is about recognizing that both belong to the natural rhythm of life.
One season ends.
Another begins.
And the world continues turning.
The Symbolism
Every major element of Equinox Sentinel™ has been chosen to contribute to its story.
The Black Fell Pony — Strength & Endurance
At the heart of the artwork stands a powerful black pony with a long, untamed mane.
His dark coat contrasts against the glowing golden moon, giving him an almost sculptural presence.
He is not portrayed as a mythical winged creature or an armored warhorse.
His strength comes from something simpler.
He is a horse.
Grounded.
Resilient.
Beautiful in his natural form.
He represents the quiet endurance required to move through life's changing seasons.
The Equinox — Balance & Transition
Twice each year, around the March and September equinoxes, day and night approach equal length.
The equinox marks a turning point in the seasonal cycle.
In this design, that balance becomes a metaphor for life itself.
Light and shadow.
Growth and rest.
Movement and stillness.
Beginning and ending.
Neither side exists entirely without the other.
The Golden Moon — Reflection & Renewal
A luminous golden moon dominates the artwork, bathing the horse and standing stones in warm light.
The moon phases arranged throughout the composition represent the continuous passage of time.
Waxing.
Full.
Waning.
Beginning again.
The moon reminds us that change is not always an ending.
Sometimes it is simply the beginning of another cycle.
The Standing Stones — Memory & Endurance
Inspired by Stonehenge and the ancient stone circles of Britain, the monumental stones anchor the composition to the earth.
They represent endurance, memory, and humanity's long relationship with the changing heavens.
Civilizations rise.
Generations pass.
Seasons come and go.
And the stones remain.
The Ravens — Watchfulness & Mystery
Two black ravens spread their wings across the upper back.
In folklore and mythology, ravens have been associated with wisdom, mystery, transformation, and the unseen.
Here, they serve as the Sentinel's watchful companions.
Guardians of the sky above the ancient circle.
The Triple Spiral — Cycles & Continuity
At the center of the back rests an ornate golden triskele, or triple spiral.
This ancient motif appears in various cultural and historical contexts, including prehistoric Irish art.
Its exact historical meanings are not fully known, but its flowing, interconnected shape lends itself beautifully to artistic interpretations of movement and continuity.
Within Equinox Sentinel™, the spirals represent three interconnected ideas:
What has been.
What is.
What is yet to come.
Not as three separate worlds, but as parts of one continuous journey.
Autumn Foliage — Transformation
Golden oak leaves, fiery red foliage, delicate bracken, and clusters of rowan berries surround the composition.
Their colors mark the changing season.
The trees do not resist autumn.
They transform.
They release what they no longer need.
And they prepare for what comes next.
Perhaps there's a lesson in that.
The Artwork
Equinox Sentinel™ was designed as a fully coordinated piece of wearable art.
Rather than placing a single illustration on an otherwise plain garment, the composition flows across the front, back, sleeves, collar, and cuffs.
Its structured arrangement draws inspiration from celestial diagrams, ornamental botanical illustration, ancient symbolism, and the dramatic beauty of the British Isles.
The Front — The Guardian
The front centers on a magnificent black Fell pony-inspired horse framed against an enormous luminous golden moon.
His long mane flows across his neck and shoulders, illuminated by subtle amber highlights.
His expression is calm and watchful.
Above him, celestial arcs and moon phases form an elegant architectural arrangement beneath the quarter-zip collar.
Golden stars trace a vertical line through the center of the composition.
Around the horse, richly colored oak leaves and rowan berries rise in mirrored botanical arrangements.
Copper.
Burnt orange.
Crimson.
Antique gold.
The colors create a fiery contrast against the deep blackened-plum background.
Beneath the horse, a circle of ancient standing stones emerges from the autumn landscape.
A brilliant glow illuminates the central opening, casting a golden path toward the viewer.
The stones ground the entire composition, connecting the celestial imagery above with the ancient earth below.
At the hem, graceful botanical scrollwork and scattered stars complete the symmetrical design.
The result is dramatic, structured, and unmistakably equestrian.
The Back — The Turning of the Year
Turn the shirt around...
And the story continues.
The back becomes a celebration of celestial balance, ancient symbolism, and the quiet power of the natural world.
A vertical arrangement of golden stars and moon phases leads downward from the collar.
Two black ravens spread their wings on either side of the composition.
Beneath them rests an elaborate circular medallion surrounding the golden triple spiral.
Its ornamental rings, celestial markings, and flowing curves create a focal point inspired by ancient decorative traditions.
Below the medallion, the black Fell pony appears again.
But this time, we see him standing in the landscape.
His body faces away as he watches the light beyond the standing stones, his long mane and tail falling naturally against his dark coat.
The scene feels quieter.
More contemplative.
As if the guardian has finished his journey and now stands watching the last light of the season.
Autumn foliage frames the landscape on both sides.
Golden bracken, oak leaves, and red berries curve inward, directing the eye toward the center.
At the lower back, a final celestial compass-like ornament and crescent moon complete the vertical composition.
The front introduces the guardian.
The back reveals the world he protects.
The Sleeves — The Forest & The Stars
Both sleeves carry elaborate arrangements of autumn foliage and celestial ornamentation.
Sweeping oak branches rise through layers of orange, crimson, copper, and gold.
Clusters of red berries provide bursts of color against the dark background.
Golden stars and crescent moons appear between the leaves, creating the impression of an autumn forest illuminated by the night sky.
The illustrations follow the length of each arm, creating graceful vertical movement that complements the shirt's fitted silhouette.
The sleeves are richly decorated without relying on additional large animal portraits.
The Collar — Celestial Alignment
The high quarter-zip collar continues the autumn and celestial theme.
Golden moon phases, stars, and botanical ornaments wrap around the neckline.
The detailing creates a finished appearance whether the collar is worn upright or the zipper is partially opened.
The Cuffs — The Final Details
The cuffs continue the deep jewel-toned background with delicate autumn foliage and celestial accents.
Small moon and star motifs tie the sleeve artwork back to the larger composition.
Even the smallest details belong to the same story.
From the ancient stones beneath the horse to the celestial markings around the collar, every part of the garment was designed to feel connected.
Equinox Sentinel™ is a celebration of the turning seasons, the enduring spirit of the horse, and the beauty of a world that never stops changing.

Traveler's Advice
If you wander across the moors when autumn settles over the hills...
Listen.
If the wind catches the last golden leaves...
Let them go.
If ravens circle above ancient stones...
Perhaps they know something you don't.
And if you discover a black pony standing beneath a brilliant golden moon...
Don't expect him to explain himself.
He has watched the seasons turn long before you arrived.
And he'll be watching long after you've gone.
But perhaps, if you stand quietly beside him, you'll understand.
Not everything needs to remain the same to remain beautiful.
Sometimes the most extraordinary thing we can do...
is embrace the change.

This is my favorite of the two I have bought so far (I’m sure they won’t be the last. 😆). Colors rich and will go very well with several of my riding pants so feels like four different outfits from one shirt). Don’t hesitate, you will be glad you bought from Nadine.
Absolutely love the designs with there rich colors. Material is soft and well structured. Definitely will be watching for more designs that I can’t live without! (Already have two 🤗)
Love the top! Thank you! 💗🐎
Absolutely amazing I can’t wait to wear it
I love the shirt. I was really surprised how tight the bodice is for an XL. The cuffs are huge and I really wish they fit tighter. The print however was beautiful!
Love the shirt! Even in hot weather it is great. Definitely size up if you don’t want a close fitting shirt.
Looking for the perfect UV protective top? Most UV clothes are boring. This is not that! It is also surprisingly comfortable. Snug but not tight, protective neck to wrist, but not hot. Great design and colors! I get compliments all the time. I have two other designs and love them all. I wore one in our TN heat and humidity and felt cool and comfy and stylish.
Love these shirts, they keep me cool in this hot sun. I order the large as they are a slim fit and it gives me a little extra room. They are well made and the colors are so vibrant. I have quite the collection of them now as every time a new one comes out I just have to have it. I will post a few pics
Such great colors on this shirt, the design is beautiful and the fit is very flattering
Beautiful design and well fitting shirt. Material is high quality and keeps you cool.
Absolutely stunning shirt, the design is beautiful, great fit & perfect light weight material for hot muggy Georgia summers.
This is such a great shirt for endurance riding! I completed a 30 miler in it on a day that had every type of weather and was comfortable all day. Plus it looked fabulous in the photos! I will say it tends to run a tad small, so my next order will be another size up.
