The Story Behind the Artwork

Some designs begin with a character.

Others begin with a landscape or a story.

Gilded Canopy™ began with a pattern.

I wanted to create an autumn design that felt elegant, artistic, and timeless.

Something with the richness of an old botanical tapestry.

The ornamentation of a beautiful antique textile.

And the warmth of a woodland landscape in October.

But I didn't want it to look like ordinary seasonal fabric.

I wanted it to have depth.

Movement.

Little details worth discovering.

And enough visual sophistication to feel equally at home in the saddle or paired with jeans and boots for an afternoon out.

So instead of arranging the leaves into a conventional repeating print, I imagined long, graceful branches winding across the garment.

Oak leaves in antique gold and muted olive.

Maple leaves in copper, crimson, and burgundy.

Delicate stems carrying bright red berries.

Beautifully detailed acorns.

And moths whose patterned wings echo the warm colors of the forest.

Every motif flows into the next.
